Cold Hardy Hibiscus: Native Hybrids with Southern Grit

While annual tropical hibiscus line the table at the big box stores, we opt for something better: Cold hardy versions (often with biggest blooms!) that are Texas Tough!

These stunning hibiscus cultivars are bred from native Texan and North American species like Hibiscus moscheutos, H. coccineus, and H. laevis—plants adapted to survive freezing winters, blazing summers, and heavy clay soils. Unlike tropical hibiscus, these hybrids (Hibiscus × hybrida) die back in winter, but reliably return from the roots each spring. They combine bold, tropical-style pollinator-attracting flowers with dependable hardiness– making them ideal for North Texas landscapes. Each in stock now at Rooted In!
