🐝 BEE DAY SPEAKER

🐝 BEE DAY SPEAKER SPOTLIGHT: TIM BRANAM 🐝

Saturday, August 29 | 1:30–2:05 PM

READING THE HIVE: UNDERSTANDING WHAT YOUR BEES ARE TELLING YOU

A good hive inspection isn’t about opening your hive as often as possible. It’s about knowing what to look for when you do.

Join University of Florida Master Beekeeper Tim Branam, owner of 3 Bees Apiary and President of the Cooke County Texas Beekeepers Association, for a practical guide to more effective hive inspections.

Many new beekeepers inspect too often, while experienced beekeepers can sometimes become too complacent. Tim will share how to strike the right balance by knowing what to look for, what healthy colonies should be doing throughout the season, and when your bees are telling you it’s time to take action.

Drawing from years of hands-on experience, Tim will share practical observations and proven techniques that take the mystery out of hive inspections, helping you make more confident management decisions and become a more observant beekeeper.

This week’s #PlantOfTheWeek is a Texas native perennial shrub that thrives even when temperatures exceed 105°F.

🔥 Blooms through the hottest part of summer
🌺 Covered in bright red-orange tubular flowers
🐦 Hummingbirds absolutely love it
🦋 Provides nectar for butterflies and is a host plant for the Crimson Patch butterfly
☀️ Thrives in sun to part shade
💧 Very drought tolerant once established
✂️ Tough, adaptable and easy to maintain

When a lot of the landscape is looking tired by late summer, this one is just getting started.
