❄️ Weather Closu

❄️ Weather Closure Notice ❄️

Rooted In will be closed Saturday & Sunday (1/24–1/25) due to the forecasted winter weather.

Current forecasts suggest temperatures may remain below freezing for up to three days. While that can sound alarming, there’s good news: 🌱 most plants have already entered dormancy, which greatly increases their ability to tolerate cold.

🌳 What to Expect from Your Landscape

• Most well-established landscape plants should not need protection.
• If a plant can’t make it through winter storms like this, it’s a sign it may not truly belong in North Texas.
• Plants that belong here should handle both climate extremes—❄️ multi-day freezes and 🔥 summer heat and drought exceeding 110°F.
• Cold-hardy evergreens and established native/adapted perennials should be just fine.

🪴 What Does Need Extra Care

• Potted plants are more vulnerable—containers lose heat quickly. Move them indoors or into a protected garage or shed.
• Newly planted plants may benefit from extra mulch and protection.
• Check soil moisture before watering. Rain is expected, so many landscapes won’t need additional water. If soil is already moist, skip it—overwatering before a freeze can increase damage.

🧣 Using Frost Cloth the Right Way

Frost cloth works like a coat, not a heater:

• Apply it before the freeze while soil still holds warmth
• Make sure it reaches all the way to the ground
• Secure the edges with stakes, heavy mulch, or garden stones—especially if winds are expected 🌬️

We do carry frost cloth at Rooted In, but old sheets and blankets work well in a pinch.
🚫 Avoid plastic or tarps directly on plants. If plastic must be used for very sensitive plants, always put fabric down first and rely on heavy mulch as your first defense.

💡 Pro tip: Cut frost cloth to fit each “bed of worry.” Label and store it so it’s ready for future cold events—fast, reusable, and stress-free.

📌 Seasonal Reminders

• 🌞 Remove covers once temps rise to prevent overheating and moisture issues.
• ✂️ Don’t prune now. Pruning can trigger new growth that’s more vulnerable to freeze damage.
• 🐝 Leave leaves and stems in place—they insulate soil and provide habitat for overwintering pollinators.

Freezing weather like this is relatively normal for North Texas, which is why we ONLY design landscapes around native and well-adapted plants that can handle winter cold and extreme summer heat with minimal intervention.

When in doubt, protect what’s newly planted—and trust established plants to do what they’re built to do.

Stay warm, stay safe, and we’ll see you once conditions improve!🌱❄️
