Let’s explore lesser-known species, their extreme survival strategies, and how they quietly outperform many popular landscape plants. Through field observations, design insight, and a few surprising stories, we’ll uncover why these “under-the-radar” plants deserve a much bigger role in both collections and Texas landscapes.

After learning about how you can propagate cactus and succulents in 2018, I kept finding most people would only propagate small pieces. I decided to try larger 4–6 foot cuttings, and it worked! Since then, I’ve propagated easily over 8,000 individual pieces of cactus ranging from 6 inches to 13 feet tall. I’ve learned what works and what doesn’t over the years and would love to share it with you!
